Spoke with some folks yesterday about acquiring a small portion of the ipv4 space for my web hosting adventures.
IPv4 space is quite expensive even now as we start seeing AWS and other larger providers adopt more and more of the IPv6 spec.
Tasks for this weekend:
- Acquire a org ID from ARIN (in progress)
- File for a pre-authorization to receive a block transfer from a yet to be identified party.
- Work with broker to get IPv4 /24 or /22 allocation. (leaning /24 as /22 is a much larger expense than I’m interested it committing to right now.)
- consider possibility of leasing IPv4 space from my DC provider before taking on the costs and management of my own ipv4 space.
- Contact some folks that have existing ASN and establish a LOI to peer once my ASN is assigned.
- Apply for ASN
- Go to DC and finally get some rack space!
- Start peering!

So far I’ve realized that I have a lot left to learn!
